I started Doctor Who with Matt Smith, and I’m only now going back and watching from the first season of New Who — I’m loving it so far even though I really, legitimately wish that they had not left Jack behind like they did. Part of the way through the Union St Tunnel is this air shaft which emerges in the back gardens of the houses above and can be seen from the road. The drop from the top of the air shaft to the tunnel floor is about 20 metres (just an estimate) and when looking up you can see the various parts of the rock that they had to dig through to create it.

The Fukang Meteorite

Back in the year 2000, an incredible meteorite weighing 2,211 pounds was discovered near Fukang, a city located in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, China. Named the Funkang meteorite, it was identified as a pallasite, a type of stony–iron meteorite. With 4.5 billion years in the making, its golden olivine mixed with silvery nickel-iron to create a stunningly beautiful mosaic effect.

Pallasites are extremely rare even among meteorites (only about 1% of all meteorites are this type) and Fukang has been hailed as one of the greatest meteorite discoveries of the 21st century.

It has since been divided into slices which give the effect of stained glass when the sun shines through them. It is so valuable that even tiny chunks sell in the region for $40 to $60 a gram. An anonymous collector holds the largest portion, which weighs 925 pounds.

Taking tips is explicitly illegal in that state, so the owners can't legally touch them in the first place. Secondly, I worked in a steakhouse where servers were paid $15 an hour and making well over 1k in tips as well. They earned that money, it's theirs, and nobody can touch it.

Yeah, I agree that they should get the tip money, illegal or not and no matter the wage — it’s just that paying your server a decent wage does partially make up for it if you’re going to be an asshole and not going to let them keep their tips. However, since it’s illegal in that state it’s a moot point.

(also if you make servers split tips, you should probably pay them a decent wage anyway because there’s always going to be that one server who brings the average tip for the whole night way down)

(basically the way servers are legally allowed to be shafted on wages is bullshit tbh)
